Well, I once used Rhino to convert .ckd (I think it can also do .par, .asm, .sat, .step, .stp, and .xgls too, but I'd have to check back on it...) files to .3ds...which you can import into gmax...
...but thats kind of a pricy approach, the program is somewhere around 3-4 grand.
