GMAX Material Editor disappeared

Postby rhole » Wed Jun 14, 2006 8:12 pm

The Materials Editor button no longer brings up the Materials Editor box.  It used to work for me.  I have re-installed GMAX 1.2 and tried to access this using the tutorial on materials as well as my own project files.  Any suggestions how I can get this function back?? ???

2 questions:

1. What happens when you click the icon in the upper-right corner of the display?

2. What happens when you hit the "M" key?

Be specific so we can figure it out for ya.

Look in your gmax.ini files. There is usually one in the main C:\gmax directory and in each gamepack subdirectory. Open it with a text editor like notepad and look for a line like this:

[MtlEditorPosition]
MainWindow=
7 70 368 456

Replace the current values with the ones marked here in red and save the file. Restart gMax and see if the Material Editor is back in a normal position. If so, close gMax and make a copy of these gmax.ini files and name them something like gmax.ini.restore. Now if it hapens again you can restore the corrupt gmax.ini file with the backup file.

That was it, the gmax.ini material edit position was WAY off screen.  I use two monitors, and have also noticed that GMAX pan feature has a two monitor bug.  You MUST run GMAX  from the primary monitor and that monitor must be configured on the left of the second monitor.

Great help guys, thanks 100,000' worth !  :D
