Help!! FS2002 will not except my aircraft model.

Postby Greg Ebnit EApilot » Fri Apr 07, 2006 12:06 am

I've almost completed my first sim aircraft and it wont show up in the sim. The aircraft is showing up in the selection window at the start but when I press ok to go to the create flight screen it shows me a microsoft error report. I have all my textures in the texture file although they are not consolidated. They are just single. But FS creates a full bgl that shows up in the sim with the textures the way I have them. I'm using a 747 air file although my aircraft is quite a bit larger. (I'll include a sreen shot.) Does anybody have any ideas what the problem is.I also tried mdl without animations since I have'nt added them yet. PLEASE HELP! I DO'NT WANT TWO MONTHS OF WORK GOING DOWN THE DRAIN.           Thanks Greg.

Since you didn't give out a lot of actual info, I'm just gonna assume you're using Gmax.

First off, NEVER use *.bgl for aircraft--they won't work.  BGL files are for scenery ONLY.  What you want to mess with is strictly MDL files.

For doing FS2k2 conversions, I would absolutely recommend getting MDLCommander and Middleman.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I am using gmax and model commander.  What I've been doing is as I texture the aircraft I am adding the parts and exporting the selected to a bgl file to make sure that they look exceptable in fs. (Then I export as a model file) As I said in the post the model is showing up in the select aircraft but when I click ok to go back to choose a flight or create a flight I get a microsoft error. The one that asks if you want to send a report to microsoft. Microsoft Flight Simulator Module has experienced a problem. I will also be sure to post in this forum in the future. Thanks. Here is the jpg that was originaly with the post only in a smaller version. OOPS! sorry about that.  Image

Added information mdl has=
1.Is exported without animations
2.Textures are not consolidated and are not grouped in files.
3.Using 747 aircraft cfg and airfile.
4.Left front fuselage is parent with cg set at 1/4 of wings.
5.Model is gmax model.
6.Model shows up in fs select aircraft window.
7.Model has aliased sound and panel file   737sound/747 panel.
8.Part names are all FS excepted names.
9.Have not exported with cockpit parts.

Questions=
1.Do I set the exterior dummie as the CG?
2.How close does the aircraft cfg have to be to show up in the sim?
3.Is this aircraft to large?(jpg in original post)

Hope this helps anyone who might be able to give me some info. Thanks Greg.

For FS2002 you do NOT use exterior/interior dummies - I believe you need to use interior/excterior GROUPS.

So ounce I get everything cloned it is safe to group them before export? Does'nt linking take care of that and would not grouping cause the model not to generate?
