i just downloaded gmax but when i start up a message comes up saying

"interactive 3D renderer initialization failed.
please check your device settings by using the -H command line option

then i click the ok button then turns off gmax

Right click on your gmax startup icon on your desktop.

Click on "Properties"

In the box "Target" you should already have highlighted the path to your gmax executable....  that would be your command line

"C:\gmax\gmax.exe"

now, hit the right arrow to get you to the end of the line, and hit the left arrow once to insert the cursor between the "e" and the closing quote mark.

then, type: -h

and you should end up with:

"C:\gmax\gmax.exe -h"

Click on the "Apply" button, and then the "OK" button.

Restart gmax.

You now will start gmax "normally" with the "Heidi" software renderer.
