Common "first time" problems... 1

your textures cannot be 24-bit (16M colour) bitmaps (*.bmp), not tgas, gifs, jpgs.  At the very least, try with a basic 8-bit (256 colour) bitmap first.

they NEED to be placed in the correctly typed TEXTURE folder  (and don't fool yourself by thinking no one writes "texure" -  guilty parties shall remain nameless.)

1 and you cannot be considered a serious flightsim modelling 'expert' until you've done one of these at least once .. especially after you know better!

i tried that but it didn't work

the texture is actually showing up white so maybe i'm texturing it wrong in gmax
is there somewhere i can get a good texturing tutorial

one other thing, how do i import .max files into gmax

As for importing *.max files into Gmax: it can't be done!  I've been looking for a fix for this problem for a bit now, and I haven't found squat.  The only solution that has been forwarded is to download a free trial of 3DS Max and convert the *.max to a *.3DS file and then import into Gmax.

As for your textures: what color is the baseline for the model in Gmax?  If it's white, then your texture folder and aircraft config are set up wrong.  If its a different color, the texture files themselves are to blame.

not only you have to put your bitmaps in the texture folder, you also have to convert them to the proper "extended" format

to do this, get DXTBMP... it's a little program that will take your 24bit BMPs and convert them to DXT or any other supported format

i dont recall where you can get this program, but if you google the name, you are very likely to find it
