Fuel tank usage order?

Postby RayCox » Sat Feb 26, 2005 12:44 pm

Many military aircraft have multiple fuel tanks which are automatically sequenced as far as fuel usage.  If these fuel tanks are accurately defined in the cfg file, is there a way to tell FS2004 what order of tanks to use during normal fuel consumption?

Th e fuel tanks are used from outer most to inner by default.  You would need a gauge as tank selector to override the default usage.

You might check other panels to look for one that meets your needs, then write to the author to request permission to use it.

I wish it were that simple.  I have reduced a total of 7 tanks to only 5 so that FS could possibly handle the configuration.  Three are fuselage tanks:  forward, sump, and aft.  The other 2 are the wing tanks on each side, so there really isn't an out-to-in order to this.  The actual aircraft burns first from the forward and aft fuselage tanks simultaneously until both are empty, then  burns from the wings.  Any way to do this in FS?

Yes, I think simply specify those tanks in  the order that FS uses them but locate them properly in the aircraft fuel tank coordinates for weight purposes.  Try calling them wing tip tanks, just locate and size them properly.

From the SDK, these are the options:
Center1
Center2
Center3
LeftMain
LeftAux
LeftTip
RightMain
RightAux
RightTip
External1
External2

Experiment to verify order of usage and which are used simultaneously.
