I'm ready for my close-up Mr. Demill

Postby X_eidos2 » Sat Jul 26, 2003 11:34 pm

OK- here's the problem.
I'm setting things up to make a computer movie using FS2k2/FS2k4. I'm trying to dress up a scene with extra airplanes in the background.

I downloaded a gmax model from FFDS. The file had the model and the texture files. I exported the object as a BGL object and placed it in the background. Looks great but no textures. I put copies of the texture files in the texture folder in the Add-on scenery folder. The files are pretty big BMP files.

What step am I missing in getting the textures to work.

No Joy.

The textures are 1024 x 1024 BMP. Do they need to be coverted to one of the DXT formats? I have a converter from Martin Wright's website.

Once again I answered my own question. Mr Wright's DXTbmp utility did the job. I opened the files and saved them using the default settings and this is what I ended up with - textures were put back in the texture folder in the ADD-on scenery folder

Now I have to hunt around and find which cfg file to tweak to get the shadows not to be so black- but that's a scenery question ain't it

Anyone know of a utility that converts FS2002 mdl files into scenery BGL files? That way I could use aircraft that aren't available via Gmax.
