Help with I7-930 and RAM Setup/OC

I am relatively new to overclocking and just recently upgraded to an I7 930 processor and Mushkin DDR3 7-7-7-18 Ram (Actually I think Nick N recommended these sticks).  I am a little confuste about some of the bios settings.  For example, in the RAM timing section, is it correct to have these match the sticker setting for the ram (i.e. 7-7-7-18)?

I have an ASUS pT6 MB and should I have turbo mode enabled?  I realize perhaps I need to supply more information, but has anybody else oc'd a 930 on an ASUS board with similar ram?  Anyone help with optimal ram and oc settings?

Actual RAM MOdel: Mushkin Enhanced Redline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

ASUS - P6T LGA 1366 X58 ATX Motherboard

Intel Core I7-930

EVGA GTX260

Go read this thread and then look at reply #13.  My ram is rated at 6-7-6-18 and if you look at reply #13 you will see where NickN said to set the BIOS at 6-7-6-18 you will just change those settings to your 7-7-7-18 settings.

If you still only have the stock Intel CPU HSF you will need to upgrade before you start overclocking your CPU.

Note that your ram is rated at 1600MHz, (DDDR3 1600).  To get your ram to run at 1600MHz you will probably have to change your BCLK and before you change your BCLK your really should have a decent CPU HSF.  Before you start messing around with this I suggest you go read these overclock guides, they will explain a lot.

Thankyou for the reply it was very useful, and I had seen some of those threads, but got lost and confused as I read even more.  I do have an after market cooler and was able to OC to 4.00x using the recommended settings in the thread you cited (or nearly the same settings) .  RAM is operating at 1601 or somethinf similar which I guess doesn't matter too much.  So far temps have stayed below 70 degrees even with FSX running so I am thrilled.  FSX is smooth and wonderful so now I am happy, thrilled, and confident I have got the best out of the components I bought.  Thankyou to Idahosurge and Nick Needham who appears to have helped many simmers get this flightsim running well.

Yea, NickN really helped me out, there is no way that I would have gotten to 4.2GHz as easy and as quick without Nick's input.  Heck I may not have ever got there.

I read a lot over at overclock.net, but I have learned that not everyone over there knows what they are talking about.  It is nice to have someone like Nick to bounce things off of and at least get a second opinion or a verification of what someone else said.  I just hate to bother him all the time with every question I have that comes up.

I'm glad that I could help and I am sure that Nick is glad too that he helped you out, he just does not hang out here anymore.

Your ram at 1601 is fine, do not worry about it.
