Some months back I pre-ordered Win7 which should be arriving in a week or so and I have a Vista fully loaded FSX system that I'm thinking of doing the upgraded to, but I'm wondering if I'll lose all my FSX stuff when I do?

As jrocky wrote, you can't upgrade from x32 to x64.

Any time you "upgrade" to a new OS, it's always best to do a fresh install. This ensures there won't be any performance or OS issues later on ;)

One of these days... I'd like to see MicroShaft design an OS which will detect installed software, save whatever config settings and registry enteries needed to prevent us from having to reinstall everything.

Or and I asking too much?

I think that you're on to something there! ;) I'm not sure, but I think that's what happens when you put the disk in the drive without formatting. It would be best to format, though. If you have another HDD, save all your stuff to that one, and put all your stuff back when you finish. Turns out, there was so much junk on my old setup that I never really missed. I saved all my pics, music, videos, FSX stuff and such, to a new HDD, then formatted my old one, put the old stuff back, and now it's infinitely faster and better. wheeee!!! It will probably be the same for you, too. Save your whole FSX root folder, if you need to! Hope this helps...
See you in the wild blue yonder.

EEK! Should have read the original message again!
You can upgrade to 64 if you are already using a 64bit os. If not, then no. Also, of course you will need a 64 bit CPU (don't know much about intel's stuff...) I got full win7x64 (the upgrade is 100) for $140 (I think) at Frys the day it came out, and that's what the guy told me, as well as all the junk I read about it. If you have x64 OS, you can also use more than 4 GB ram. x32 can only address 4 GB, and x64 I think 16 GB. x64 is the way to go anymore. Everything I use likes it, cuz all 8GB ram installed gets used. Since you got the intel thing, if it's the tri-channel one, you can use 12 GB with 6-2GB stix! HIT IT!
