Need some RAM suggestions

Postby Tai-2 » Sun Nov 15, 2009 1:53 pm

I am using a foxconn a74mxk mobo
it uses DDR2 800 667 and 533 RAM
at first I wanted either http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820220293 or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145241
they use to be $55 after rebate.... now... a lot higher  :'(

So i did some research and got

http://www.frys.com/product/5530560?sit ... IN_RSLT_PG

http://www.frys.com/product/5226777?sit ... IN_RSLT_PG

http://www.frys.com/product/5611731?sit ... IN_RSLT_PG

http://www.frys.com/product/5672071?sit ... IN_RSLT_PG

and
http://www.frys.com/product/5008315?sit ... IN_RSLT_PG

If you know any other RAM that could be usable by me, then I would love that :)
Really don't want to spend more than $60 though, cause I am already saving to upgrade this mobo and after that my GPU :) :) :)

Unless your board only supports those RAM speeds, I would go with the higher mhz. Patriot has a 1066 G series, OCZ Reaper, or G Skill are all good.

But your first suggestion is the one I would go with.

ya all my mobo( box at least) says it supports DDR2  800 667 and 533
and I thought the first one on frys was good too, also considering my computer stays cool :)

Personally, I'd get DDR2-800. It's cheap and should allow you to overclock your processor.

You could probably get away with less if your CPU supports it, (but I don't know anything about AMD at this time).

I don't know what their BIOS looks like, or what kind of things you can tweak with it, but DDR2 is still perfectly acceptable to me! I'm running it, and been driving my girlfriend nuts with how much time I spend messin with it! Here's some specs for mine.

AMD Phenom 9850 AM2+ OC'd @ 2.9GHz HT 3.0 5200 MT/s
8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 MHz stock running overclocked to processor 930+ MHz @2.05V 4+4+4+12 timings
ATI radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5
MSI K9A2 Platinum overvolted & overclocked chipset
Antec 850W PSU
Windows 7 x64

It was a fast machine 1 year ago, and it still is pretty fast, but it doesn't have it's own thoughts like it used to. CPU's
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z, NB & FSB @2608 MHz
AMD 8350 @ 5.02 GHz 1.524V (200.6 x 25)
Corsair H100i
16GB GSkill Trident @ 2133 MHz C10
Asus 7870 2 GB 1200core/5500mem
Samsung 250GB SSD
RaidMax 1200W
Cooler Master HAF 932
Windows 7 x64
VRS Superbug/TacPack, Iris A-10A, PMDG 77W, 744 and MD-11
REX texture direct, FTX Global

1. Only one of your links worked.

2. Try to get DDR2-800 with 4-4-4-12 timings, or DDR2-1066 with 5-5-5-15 timings. I would get the one that's the cheapest, but make sure the RAM has heatsinks on them.
