My 9800GT (basically a 8800GT with a different name) came factory overclocked, but I could push a bit more to the values in my sig. (+60 Mhz core)... and a bit more in shader and memory.
I have a friend who bought exactly the same card model, but couldn't overclock it, because it lost stability (BSODs)... quite strange
Better to read reviews, so you know approx. values of maximum stable overclocking.
I think my FPS did increase, but not much in FS. Also check temperatures: My card Idles at 48

Chad...
...are you sure you are not observing your Processor's temperature?
I don't think my nVidia 7800 GS Graphics Card has any provisions for detecting its temperature via software...as far as I am aware!...

Paul...getting hot under the collar!...

That's probably more accurate than the NVIDIA control panel...

I looked around on the internet and one gentleman received this from the BFG support team (I don't know which manufacturer you have though... still the same card!):
"This card tends to run hot. The temperatures you are experiencing are nornmal for his card. The card can idle at about 75-85 Celsius. The max temperature for this card can reach 100-110 Celsius."
So while gaming, just keep it under 100c to be safe and you should be fine.
P.S. DAMN that runs hot!
