I recently completed a new build for running FSX. My new tech specs are as follows.

1. Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
2. Case: Thermaltake Zaser V1 VG4000BNS Black/Red / Steel ATX Full Tower
3. Power Supply: ULT X3 1000 Watt Modular .
4. Motherboard : ASUS P6T Deluxe LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX
5. CPU: Intel Boxed i7 Processor 920 (Over-clocked to 4.0 GHz)
6. CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE 1366 Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler
7. Hard Drive : VelociRaptor 300GB 10,000 RPM Serial A
8. DVD: SAMSUNG
9.Video Card: BFG GeForce GTX 285 OC 1 GB GDDR3
10. RAM: Corsair XMS3 12GB DDR-3-1600 (PC-12800) CL9 Memory Kit

FSX is running perfectly stable with performance out the door. Motherboard and CPU temps stay in a range from 38 to 65 degrees centigrade depending on load. My Vcore voltage is at 1.42v. My question is whether or not I should be concerned with the Vcore voltage setting? Is it too high?

Download OCCT and run the 1 hr CPU test. You want to make sure the temp doesnt go above 80c. Set 80 as the max temp in OCCT and if it gets hotter than that it will stop the test. If it goes above 80 you will need to trim the Vcore voltage and it still being stable thru the test. 1.4 seems about right for the 920 but you will want to optimize it as low as you can and still be stable.

I think the max. is 1.55v.

I downloaded OCCT and ran the 1 Hour test. Temperatures never got above 75C. I also lowered my Vcore voltage to 1.39v. System is running good. Again, thanks for your help.

Your welcome. Keep notching down the VCORE untill not stable running occt. When you reach that point go back up one notch and then you will be at the lowest possible VCORE for your system. Your temp looks good.

I originally over-clocked my i7 920 to 4GHz. I have since reduced it to 3.72 GHz and set my Vcore voltage to 1.7v. At this setting my PC is very stable and without sacrificing performance, as at either setting (4 or 3.72 GHZ), the CPU was handling anything and everything sent to it by my  GTX 285 OC. It runs cooler and avoids problems associated with running with a maxed out over-clocked CPU.

I know that other people probably have experience this but I thought I would never see the day when the FPS would spike over 200 flying along a coastline in and around REX clouds.
