GPU fan speed automatic controller

Postby SubZer0 » Wed Aug 12, 2009 3:55 pm

Hey everyone,

I've got an overclock on my GTX260 but it gets really hot. I actually saw it at like 95 degrees just a few minutes ago after playing Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway for a while. I cranked the fan speed up to 100% using EVGA Precision to cool it back down. EVGA says it shouldn't go over 85 degrees so now I'm very worried.

I have the fan speed at about 54% right now (40% is stock). If I go above that it gets really loud (I vote for quiet ;)). I haven't tried gaming with that fan speed yet, but I'm sure it will go above 85 degrees.

Having to minimize the game and change fan speeds can get tiring. I'm wondering if there is anything that will controll the fan speeds automatically... i.e., if it goes above 75 degrees the fan speed goes up to 80%... above 85 degrees it goes up to 100%...

I've found a tool called NVclock, but from what I've read it's only for Linux. I'm on XP x64 SP2 ;)

Thanks a lot for any of your help, gentlemen... And ladies, just in case!

I turn my fan speed up to 80 before I start flying. The temp stays around 55 - 60 c with it at 80. Im not sure about any automatic controller for the GPU fan speed.

You can get a free program called Speedfan. Its pretty cool actually. The program monitors temps, and also acts as a fan speed controller. I can so far control 2 of 4 fans in my case with it. Not sure if it will control the GPU fan (I believe it does). And if I'm not mistaken, you can set it up to increase the fan speed once a preset temperature is reached.

My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

Thanks a lot, Rob. I knew about SpeedFan, and actually tried it out on my old system, but it didn't do much. Will give it another go with my new machine. Thanks!
