i7 Overhead

I read on Nick's post about using FPS limiter, a reference in one of his answers about the high overhead of the i7 processor.
Could someone expand on this as compared say, to an E6600? I have both an E6600 O/C to 3.2 and an i7 920 O/C to 3.8
