DeFrag

Postby Brando14100 » Sun Aug 24, 2008 10:22 am

I am down to like 9.5 gigs of free space on my hard drive. It is my understanding that doing a DeFrag will speed up my laptop. Is there anything I should do first, or should I just hit the button? I have Vista by the way. Thanks.

NickN recommends O&O Degrag.  I think that the latest version he recommend was v.8.5 even though v.10 it the latest released.  I would do a search through the FSX forum for "defrag" and/or O&O and see what Nick had to say.

From reading what Nick did have to say, while defragging will probably help your biggest problem is that for FSX your hard drive to to full.

Try and free up some more space, and use O&O v8.6 for Vista.

Get yourself an external drive and start taking old stuff off your laptop. You can get a docking station that handles 2.5- and 3.5-inch drives for 30 bucks and a whopper of a new drive for less than a hundred. You just slide the (formatted) bare drive into the docking station, plug in the USB plug and it's ready to go-- shows up as a new drive.
