Yeah, another one of these threads.. Ive searched and gone through Nicks tips, however they arent much help with Vista. I suppose I can research these myself, but how the hell do you remove the unnecessary ones???

How I still get 20+FPS on my Sim with all this SH*T running continues to mystify me. ::)

Processes (top and bottom half)

Where is NICK!? >:( :P

I wouldn't worry about it, like you said, you're still getting good FPS in the sim... and your CPU usage tells a tale, as it should with a quad core.

And to add, in another similar thread, I saw a recommendation to go to MSCONFIG and disable ALL services, reboot, and the important ones will start on their own at startup. Id like some more unput on this before I try it.

As for the unnecessary processes/services, Id like to know Where to go on this PC to perminantly disable them.

Thanks,

-Jack

Does the physical memory not ALSO tell a tale? ;D ::)

Okay, curious...

If I open my task manager > Right click a useless/unnecessary task > open file location > create a backup > Delete the file/ application > Reboot >>> it will not restart @ startup. Is this correct?

Jack,

I'm no expert and I don't have Vista, but take a look at these:

http://www.jasonn.com/turning_off_unnec ... windows_xp

http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/history.php

Maybe there's a chance that some services used in XP might be used in Vista.

You simply right click and hit End Process... ;)

... no way!

click start, enter 'services.msc' in the search box and press enter
The other way is Control pane. \ system and maitnance \ Administrative tools, then Services icon
Vista screams about admin mode and you are at the right place to disable a few of them

if you run msconfig - you can 'hide' ms services - then disable all the other stuff in services and start up. Then when you restart the computer - it will start up fine without all the background stuff (like virus scanners etc).

Doing this gives me an extra 1/2 frame only and is not worth the while in my humble opinion.

oh  -I forgot -

to find msconfig

you type msconfig into the search in the start button. Then when it pops up- you can click on it to open its menu and you can take it from there.  To return to ordinary running is easy - just repeat the procedure and reboot.

Certainly, the computer will run without all the services and startups - but it does not run much faster.

Do not use msconfig to change service settings, go into administrative tools, services.

I have a news flash for you guys... you best stay clear of black viper because that site will get you into more trouble that you would ever think

His method of shutting down services, does NOT remove them from the memory

I dont know how many times I have come across people in this forum and others that were having all sorts of problems to find out they visited black viper... the site is dangerous unless you are an IT expert and know exactly what you are doing

Regardless of his lists, which are WRONG

sure it disabled, thats not what I am talking about and what causes systems to choke more than the process itself...

Question

Did you set the dropdown to DISABLED and click apply, and thats it?

Or

did you select to not allow the service to start at LOGON and disabled its ability to boot, because if you didn
