Hey Guys,  Hope your day is going well for you,

     I need and sure would appreciate your help in disabling [temp turn-off ] my anti-virus program.   I don't want to lose the program, - - -  just to turn it off while flying.   I have had this anti-virus for years and it's never allowed a virus yet and it's  always been FREE and this is also with free updates  and checks every morning, nor have THEY ever asked for any money. I wouldn't want to lose this program for anything.

     The program is :   AVG Free Edition,   I use windows XP.

This is the very reason I stopped using AVG and switched to Avira instead. There are only two ways I can think of to turn the software off before simming. One would be to use the task manager and  stop all running processes associated with AVG, which can be tricky if you aren't sure what they all are. The second option might be to use a start-up manager and prvent it from loading on the next start up, prior to a simming session. Spybot S&D has a feature like this in "expert mode".  Hope this helped.

The easiest way to do this is to right click on the little multi-coloured box on the right side of the toolbar that lets you know you're running it. Then choose to Quit AVG Control Center. Sorted
When you've finished simming just double click on your desktop icon and it'll start up again

Also ..... every single AVG process starts with ..... guess what ?

Indeed Andy. There are four processes;
avgupsvc.exe - Update Service
avgemc.exe - E-mail Scanner
avgcc.exe - Control Center
avgamsvr.exe - Alert Manager

     Hey Ozzy, Thank you so much for your help.   Is there some way to check to make sure the antivirus is disabled ?   When I click to " Quit Avg - - -"  my pointer turns into an hourglass, that usually shows the PC is still working on the process.   I can still click on the  " Quit Avg - - -".  

     When I checked my " Security Center " it tells me my virus protection is still "On".   Am I still doing something wrong ?

Your windows security center is just telling you that you have an anti-virus program installed. If you end all the processes in the task manager, it should be inactive.

     Hey Guys,  Here's wishing that your day goes well for you .

     That is so nice of you Guys to keep at this "anti-virus" disable thing until it's resolved.   It's proved to be a difficult program to disable.  [Like I said earlier - -  it's a good program and I wouldn't want to loose it].   After some searching and testing I've discovered how to disable this program and turn it back on.   The following is the method I use, - - - perhaps there's other ways but this works for me.  

     Click on the icon on the desktop and open "Control Center".

     Click once on the "Shell Extension" box and click to deactivate.  

     Double click on the "e-mail Scanner" box and click to "Disable Plug-in" and click " OK "  

     Double click on the "Resident Shield" box and untick "Properties" options.  

     The  " AVG antivirus " is at this time TURNED OFF.

     Don't forget to reverse this procedure when you're finished flying and before you go  "ON-LINE" again
     to turn the Antivirus back on.  

     I found this in a book and thought it would be helpful to others.    I've printed this info out and keep it at the bottom of my screen as  a reminder of the steps to use  and to TURN it BACK ON when done.
