Is overclocking worth it?

I mean - if you  overclock by 20% - all you get is an extra frame if you  average 5 frames per second. Or going from 15 to 18 frames per second. Hardly alot  given all the stress and adventure!

i think it depends. if you are good at it then it could be worth it. even if its a little bit extra... it will still help. even just a few frames can make a difference

Depends, for you to really see a realtime performance you need to get bout a 40% OC or so. Then there is the breed that overclocks because it's fun, the ones that don't play games but just run 3dmark etc and see how good they can get it to run. Then the ones that have cascade systems and run LN2 benchmark runs.

I am not going to say overclocking is really worth it for a great performance increase because yes it does offer performance, quite substancial in some cases but for most users that just want to oc their stock rig a few Mhz it is not worth it. A computer needs to be taylored to be an overclocker. They need to have a good heatsink, a good motherboard, spowersupply, and airflow; for the amount an overclocker spends on overclocking hardware he could buy a cpu that outperforms his OC cpu. It's just how some people like to spend lots of money on their mid-range car to make it go fast, not because they can go fast(speed limits) but more so just because it's enjoyment for them and is a hobby.
