Hi... hope you can help with this... I've got a second PC which is a P3 laptop, here are the specs:

It's running windows 2000 and sometimes it gets extremely slow...it blocks like every 5 minutes, I only use it for visiting websites and MSN Messenger... nothing else... the only programs running in background are a shared Epson printer, AVG antivirus, the LAN connection and the messenger :-[

theres more than 60% of the HD space remaining.

Well it IS a slow comp, but I wouldn't know, try defragging with O&O

Ok!! The machine was taking about 15mins to boot... but it's not because of its specs...

I check the Toshiba website regularly for updates or new drivers... but there was something I was IGNORING!!

There is a BIOS update that has many, many, many fixes for Win 2000 and XP... I noticed my BIOS ver. was 1.20... and the update ver. at the moment is 2.00!! ::)

So I downloaded and updated the BIOS....

Took less than 3 minutes to restart!!!! 8-)

And now it doesn't run like a 486DX...

I use a lot my P3 ,but It was 800mhz and had a 128 agp video card, Sure I may able to run & play FS9

( That is the PC next to mine, you saw in MSM web cam the other day with my son playing Vice City,.. Remember?)

also, 128Meg of system ram for Win2K might also be an issue too. You might be able to get more memory off ebay for cheap. It might be worth it if you plan on using it for a while.

Is it getting slow when its unplugged? Remember that Laptop CPUs cut their clock in half when they are unplugged to save power, unless you're doing something CPU intensive the laptop wil cut its resources. But more RAM never hurt anyone. See what you can do about dropping a half gig into the book.

It is always plugged... and I have configured that Intel speedstep program for not reducing CPU power when it's unplugged.

About 4 months ago I bought a new "generic" battery for the laptop which works very well.. but now I'm considering to buy extra ram...

I just will need to know the RAM socket so I can go to those wonderful markets full of old computer we have in this country

It's like eBay but in real life... they sell from burnt processors to 42 inches LCDs so I think I might get a stick there... Thanks for the advice
