explorer.exe hangs at start up

hello al of you ...there is a problem with my PC at startup....since last 2 months it hangs at startup....explorer.exe stops responding....when i log off and re log in it works fine....is any solution to this.

If u dont know, explorer.exe is the main application that keeps windows running. it has control over things like the start menu and system tray. i might be able to help if u tell me the last thing u did before explorer.exe started quiting

Do a complete defrag, and clean out your prefetch folder.

Did you install Zone Alarm or mess around with any Install Sheild applications? They both did that for me.

I got a pretty similar problem. It always recognized a problem with Explorer.exe just after startup. Made a recovery installation and everything worked fine again. Full stop.
