How far overclocking without changing hardware this processor can go.
Thank you guys.

Well what motherboard do you have. Also what RAM do you have, and what cooling solution do you have. You can push that processer mabe to the 3Ghz mark, but to do that your going to need a very nice motherboard, wonderful timed RAM, and a good cooling solution (Zalman) to achieve that.
Cheers

Sorry forgot bout that.
My specs are:
Athlon 64 3500+ with default AMD fan
Abit AN8 guru
1,5 gb ram kingston (?)
2 SEAGATE 120 gb sata
windows xp sp2
Sound blaster live

What exact RAM do you have. If its PC3200 2-2-2-5, then your going to be able to get mabe 2.6, with looser timings, and better voltages you can hit 2.7, however no matter what you do, get a Zalman CNPS-7000Cu on there to keep things cool.

my mate has 2ghz AMD oc to 3.2 on default colling with 2gig DDR PC3200 RAM. proof how far some lowend cores can go! (as rock uli m1697 board i think)
however if u have a good cpu heatsink you need a weel designed case (look at cams myspace thats an alrite case) but their is better and its a major par of keeping cool inside!

I have a stock clocked AMD64 3500+ sitting on a Asrock Dual sata board. AMD fan has me sitting at 38c (100 f) temps. Rarely reaches 40 celcius.
As for memory, my timings ( according to Everest )..
2 x 1 GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM sitting at 3.0-3-3-8
Would you attempt any overclocking with this set-up ?

Yes, but only mabe a 10% clock. Until you change your heatsink I wouldn't do anything to heavy. Your idle temps shouldn't be more than 45*C
@Flymo: Aslong as you have a system pulling cool air in the front, and blowing the hot out the back, you can use any heatsink you want.

granted but you have to admit a well designed case with good airflow is pretty much essential for keeping a pc cool otherwise you get my current problem.
thats what my other msg was ment to say jsut it was about 1 in the morning and i have no idea y i was stil up

You can push it to a hundred billion ghz if you somehow submerged it in liquid helium and had a power plant

Seriously, I'd overclock to about 2.3ghz, where I'd overclock slowly untill RAM timings need to get to like 5

, it becomes to hot, or it becomes unstable

on stock cooling you can get about 2.8Ghz.... for some reason some of the athlons cant get past that barrier (the 3800s I know for a fact have an issue) but I dont know if you really want to try overclocking on stock cooling.... I'd reckon a zalman, I have one sitting on the floor never used because I errr

The highest achieved overclock is currently 8.5GHz, basically heat isn't the issue, its Motherboard, and RAM limitations.

8.5Ghz? holy.... How long did it last stable? Cheers, Gunny

It ran stable for a good week, thats how long it took the guy to run out of liquid nitrogen.

I'll be damned.... Well, that isnt what I'd call optimal for most people..... but hey its amazing it was achieved, how long before they hit 10Ghz? Cheers, Gunny

Again, people are trying, but current motherboards, and RAM cannot hold the voltages required to run 10. Hopefully C2E will do something about that.
