Anyone got some real good tutorials for flashing my card thus? (Or even up to an ultra but i don't think tahts possible!!) I've heard it can be done with reaonably low risk to the hardware? Is that true? And can I do it without internet on that PC? I can get files etc to it no probs.
Any info at all would be great.
Dan

Yeah can be done, think you need to make a floppy disk up with the required files on it and boot up off it. It should flash the card for you. Cant remember where to get teh BIOS updates for the card though.
Get on the Overclockers forum mate! they will tell you how to do it I am sure.

Yes, and you can flash to ultra, but you must replace the onboard cooling soluton with a much better one.

Well we won't bother with doing that then!! (Yet anyway!!) Is there anyway I can find the temps from my card?

Right click on Desktop
Properties selection
Settings tab
Advanced button
GeForce 6800 (your model here) tab
Halfway down on the left window should be:
Teperature Settings

Can depend on what drivers you are using though, I have heard some dont show a temp readout. The latest official ones should though.

I have the drivers from nVidias site, and I think they are the latest, but no readout.
Whats all this talk about Forceware and catalyst drivers?
Down at the OC UK forum theyre telling me to tweak the pipes / shaders with RivaTuner instead of flashing it. What do you lot thing?

If it can be done without flashing it then do it that way! Once you flash your cards BIOS your warranty is null void.

Yes that would be wise use rivatuner to activate the remaining pipes, this way you can see if it will remain stable. If the card runs stable then you can flash it.

Well, since Monday I have been at 12/5. My sixth shader is dodgy (According to OC UK), so I can't get to 12/6 (The 6800GT) because it artifacts like hell. I dont need anymore performance, so I'll leave it at that.
Thanks all., Dan

If you don't feel comfy... then don't do it.
BTW Dan, why do you have a GeForce FX symbol in your sig when you own a 6 series? LOL.

Hey yeah, I hadn't noticed that!! I must change it, I got it out of the VGA card users manual. Don't want to mislead people or owt... ;)

My experience of Bios flashing a 6800LE resulted in a dead card!
Hardly surprising, the 6800LE is NOT the same design as the 6800GT or Ultra, thankfully I managed to replace the dead card (which belonged to a friend!) with a 6800GT that happily overclocks beyond Ultra speeds, without the potentially damageing results of an iffy BIOS swap.
Remember, Overclockers forums are full of geeks with in the main, more money than sence! - They don't worry if they trash their card it seems , - whats another
