Radeon Catalyst 4.9 Driver Question

Well, I checking to see if any new drivers were out for my Radeon 9500 Pro and I happily discovered that the Cat 4.9s were released on September 9th.  But, it lists 2 different downloads, one seems to have more options in the package (one is 26MB and the other is 42.3MB).  Does anyone really understand the difference between these 2 packages.  I've read through them and I don't really understand good enough to download either yet.  I understand a little-but must admit am minorly confused.  Could someone here explain them to me (those of you who have downloaded these new drivers).  Thanks.

This is the first time that I remember there being more than one package.

Just to clear things up,the 42.3 MB Catalyst drivers have their own CATALYST Control Center, whereas the 26MB Catalyst drivers use ATI's Control Panel.Personally,I'd stick with ATI's own Control Panel,as it causes far less conflicts.

I agree,  stick with the standard "control panel" that comes with the 26mb drivers.
The new  "control center" is an overly complicated, buggy,  resource hog to say the least.

I just upgraded to the cat 4.9's from my old cat 4.7 drivers........

I gained 603 points in 3Dmark01 SE !!!!!!!!  ;D

First time that has happened with an ATI driver update for me.  Usually they go down  :P.

best,

Personally, with my Radeon 9800 card I have stuck with the Omega drivers and their control panel. This has been very stable for me, never a problem and I really mean NEVER. Control panel interface seems to be better than ATIs, to me anyway. With the built in RAD clocker and tester, I have overclocked the core and memory on my card to the utmost safe limit and no problems at this setting for two months now running FS9, Painkiller, MOH, CoD and other graphically intense games.

RichieB16, if you are unfamiliar with the Omega drivers, they are drivers that have been tweaked for ATI, Nvidia and other cards. Speaking of the ATI, these tweaked drivers are the Catalyst drivers, but reworked.

Finding the ones you need are simple at their site. Have a look!   http://www.omegadrivers.net/

Read their instructions. These drivers come with their own control panel. You will need to remove your old control panel and drivers BEFORE you install Omegas. Easy peasy really. Enjoy.
