Well, I finally overclocked my P4 2.53 Ghz to 2.85 GHz....
Does anyone know what the max suckers these things will take for heat? I am getting about 43oC??? I don't thank that is the right temp, seems before I overclocked, I was running at about 49oC!!!


What is going on???

don't know exactly,but (even if it might sound strange): is you cooler noisier??

Put it back the way it was. Silent is asking if your fan if making more noise than usual. If it is, that means it's working harder to cool the CPU. That's not a good thing. Put it back the way it was unless you want to buy a new CPU in the near future. I keep stressing that overclocking should only be preformed on liquid cooled systems. Liquid systems move heat around better than air cooled.

My Celeron runs at idle at approx 54 deg c and it'll hit 60+ under load.

My fan's clogged with dog hair etc when on the rare occasion I clean the thing, it runs at about 49 / 57 deg c......

P4 will run perfectly happy at those high end temps.  I've been running two p4's for 9 months now for a comparison. I have a P4 2.53 running standard with an Intel fan (max temp about 44degs).  I also have a P4 2.8 clocking 3.01 (reaches about 53degs with Intel fan). Both perfectly stable on similar setups.  Most P4's will NORMALLY take a huge amount of abuse, but remember, there'll ALLWAYS be a chip that fails when pushed. Allways use your BIOS for temp checks, not other monitoring software.

ummm, errrr, could the lower temputure be because I put another 2 fans on my computer? Because I put the fans on the computer, (one on the front of the case, and one taped on the video card, because I couldn't find any other place to put it) and then I never bothered to check the temputure.... .... just overclocked it

I am thinking of putting another fan on the side of the heatsink on the processor, mabe then I can overclock it to +3GHz.....

I will put it back, and see what the temputure is..... Ummm, what else can I do to get and keep the system as cool as possible, without costing a fourtune.... I am in a room that is a normal temp... about 18oC

I run several machines, and i find that keeping a negative pressure in the cases gives best temperature results.  I achieve this by having more fans sucking out that blowing in. Generally, suck in at lower front, expell at upper rear.

yeah thats generaly a good idea.. have more exhaust fans than chassis fans.. causes a vacume and sucks the hot air out of the machine...although i have 4 chassis fans a cpu fan and a graphics fan  and two heat extraction fans in the pci slots it still performs well..try to position your fans so you have a constant circulation of air and taping one to the top of the case blowing downwards is also a good idea so heat doesnt rise as much.

think it would help if I put a more powerfull fan in the power supply?
I don't have enough room for another case fan

I am gonna keep my processor like this... the temputure is VERY stable... it hasn't gone above 50oC, I check it by doing a disk defrag, then I immeditly shut down, then I go into the BIOS and check the temputure... is that a good way, and if it isn't could you reccomend a good way?

Edit:what is a "stable" condition? I am reading about that, and I don't really get what that means

Bios is very inaccurate when it comes to temps. Never trust ur bios  ::)  Use a temperature probe to get temps, the best way to do it is mod your mobo and by a computer temp monitor, feed the probe under ur processor and put it under the core, i saw a tutorial for this a while back I would have to look for it, if i have a chance i will post it.

My XP2000+ hangs around 35C from cold boot. Under a heavy load it may reach 45-48C(depending on how long it has been on)  48C is the max.  I have an upgrade cooling system in one way but not in another.  It runs slightly cooler maybe 2C than a standard AMD retail cooling.  However the standard cooling was so loud i got really annoyed and went into town and got a silent cooler and took the standard heatsink and fan off and put the new one on.  It now spins at 3000rpm compared to 7000rpm, and it is much bigger.  The AMD retail fans are so thin it is scary.  The new one is much bigger.  It now is silent other than the psu.
