Dream Machine

Thinking about upgrading and money no object!!!!!!! Opinions are often dictated by cost - but hey let your imagination run wild. What would your dream machine spec be to get that ultimate frame rate and smooooth uninterrupted image. For a long time now I've been thinking of taking the upgrade step and your opinions would be welcomed.
My current spec:
Athlon DDR 266mhz mother
Athlon 1.4ghz DDR cpu 266mhz
512mb PC2100 DDR memory
60gb drive, 64mb NVIDIA GE FORCE 2PRO  :-/

I would wait until next year to upgrade or you might regret it. By the second quarter pci express is suppose to be on most new motherboards. (16x) While right now the fastest AGP slot is 8X. Also 64 bit processors are in the making. They are suppose to become plentiful by then too.

If I where you I would just upgrade that video card then wait until next year.
ASUS P4C800 Deluxe
Geforce FX5900 Ultra(256 MB)
1 gig DDR PC3200 RAM
Pentium 4, 3.0 GHZ, 800 mhz FSB
Coolermaster 550 watt power supply

Well, if he had the same (Nice!) setup as you Deadnight, I'm sure he'd be happy to wait...... ;)

But, if money is no object....

Heh, yeah I took that into consideration. I just recently upgraded and I am regretting it now after I am seeing what will be comeing out early next year. I had planned on just upgrading here and their when this system starts to fall behind (new processor, more ram, new video card, bla bla) But since pci express and 64 bit processors are going to be available I'm going to have to start fresh with new motherboard, processor and everything. That doesn't mean I'm going to though. But If I would have waited I could have gotten triple the computer for the same costs. But even then... Maybe it will be a few years before video cards even utilize the 16x pci slots on pci express...? I wouldn't want to run out and buy a new 64 bit processor right away either. Their will definatly be some problems.

It's all up to you.. but I would wait... just in case. Unless you are playing games now that are running extremely poor on your system.

But If I was to build a new computer again right now being the best I could possibly get.. It would be exactly what I allready own.  ;D
