Well I would agree with you sauing that you definatly need to get a new psu, that is feeble what you have got a the moment :(

I would say it would be over clocker ball but I don't know if your cooling on the proocessor would be up to it or not!

That PS is way too small. Even my old PII at 233mhz had a 200w PS.

You can overclock it but make sure you know what you're doing first so you don't fry it. Intels tend to be harder to overclock than AMDs. The reason for this is people were overclocking slower CPUs and then selling them for the price of a regular CPU running at the same speed as the OCd one. You can OC Intels through the BIOS and through software utilities. Search around the Web first. Also, make sure you have good cooling on the CPU before you overclock it.

BTW, if it's a company workstation. Check with you IT manager or who ever is in charge of the computers before you do that. If it's taking to long to load, defrag the hard disk first and shut down programs running in the background. That should speed things up a bit.

A RAM upgrade would give more performance than any overclock! be careful, if you need to ask, my advice is don't do it!  ;)

I say fry it and tell the boss that you don't know what happened to it... one minute it was loading, the next smoek was pouring out the back...

Time for a new one isn't it? :-)

Or persuade the boss to get a new one and send that to me!

XP needs 256 mb to be workable, 512 mb to be smooth

1GHz P3... that's about as fast as you could get them straight out of the box...

I recall the IBM Pentium 3 1.4GHZ UPG F/XSERIES ! 1.4ghz was the pIII's ultimate peak.
Heres a few examples of overclocked Pentium 3's... http://www.sysopt.com/cgi-bin/database.cgi?go=1&p3tualatin=Pentium+3+Tualatin&manufac=All&sort=Motherboard+name&rperpage=10&theview=standard&k=

I have a pIII 667 that runs happily @933mhz!

Cant you just use BIOS? change the multiplyers around a bit if able or up the FSB.

I would go with the sabotage route, get in the case with a screwdriver and carefully prize off important lookin bits, or even better unplug the heat sink fan wire from the mobo

I have an Athlon 2600. My FSB is at 180 & my multiplier is at 12.5. I have 1gig 333 RAM, (At least I think it is 333!?!) My processor runs @ 2.25gig with no crashes at all. I tickled the mem to 7volts. CPU runs quite happily @ 50-55C.
MSI K72N delta, 1 gig 333 RAM, Athlon 2.6 clocked to 2.25, 120gigHDD0 Service Pack 2, 80gigHDD1 Service pack 1, GeForce 5600 ultra, Antec plusview server case, lots of fans, lights & UV illuminatory devices!

YES you can!!!
I been running my dual P3 1Ghz Very stable at 1.2Ghz (Fsb=160Mhz) for some years now!
It sure depends on your hardware, but overclock you can!!
BUT first you will have to put some more RAM in there, at least 512Mb, more Ram=better performence (I have 1.5Gb Ram)
After that you can start experiment with your Motherboards fsb, just take it easy.
But make sure you have a good Air-flow through youre pc and that youre Cpu gets the cooling it needs, (use new coolingpasta)
You will get loads of info on internet!

I still don
