Defragmenter

Can somone explain the theory behind this? I know M$ say it makes your PC fatser, but It seems to make mine slower? Why is this?

Defragmenting rearranges the way files are stored on your hard drive so they will access faster.

What OS are you running?  You should have a defrag app built in.

The old Win '98 defragmenter works fine.. ...!
I spend many a happy hour watching the little line travelling across my screen, shuffling all my data around.
It's mesmerising, and will quickly send you off to sleep... ...!
...makes a change from sim flying... ...!

I use O&O Defrag, it has many options in how to defrag your disk.
I use the "Complete/Access" it will defrag files in order of which are accessed the most frequent (moving them closest to center) this not only speeds up your computer in a big way but also keeps your hard drive from working as hard therefore increasing the life. Highly recommend! if after defraging with it your computer is bogged down more than something else is apparently wrong.
