This nasty  little process that was introduced a couple of builds ago,
has started causing me non-stop issues with Youtube,
and any other flash based app.
Every time I open the Task Manager and disable it,
I lose the ability to run Flash apps,
and blocking it with the Firewall gives the same problem,
so it must remain on in order to use any Flash apps.


I've scoured their site looking for a solution,
or a way to disable it, and like any proud parent,
they refuse to acknowledge that it's their fault,
and just go on blaming the users and their systems for the faults. 

I'm wondering if anyone here has figured out a solution to this, and if not,
what a viable browser alternative is,
that would allow me to run addons like FireFox does. 

If no such alternative exists,
does anyone happen to know what the last version of FireFox was before this hellish process was added?

There is NO WAY to disable it,
and retain Flash functionality,
at least according to the FireFox team,
and they say that it is here to stay. 

Ugh, I've been trying to figure out how to disable it too. I have had to start avoiding flash sites when using my laptop, because it becomes laggy as hell.

Why do you want to disable it?
I'm pretty sure it's the thing that handles all the FireFox plug-ins, including the flash plug-in. I don't belive FireFox has the ability to handle flash on it's own.

I thought I had made my reason clear in my first post.

I've got Opera and Maxthon to use as my alternative Browsers, if I have problems with Firefox.

The only trouble is, they are considerably slower.

I also noticed this recently. I'm not sure what it does or if it's harmful but ZoneAlarm tells me when it wants to run & I deny it access. This doesn't seem to affect websites like YouTube in any way. Like Paul, I have alternative browsers if I run into problems with Firefox.

It's not as bad with build 3.8 as it was with 3.6 & 3.7, but it still happens.


Most of my issues with it occur when I have two pages open at once on both of my monitors, and at least one (more frequently both) of them have a flash application.

The plugin-container.exe will cause Firefox to hang up,
and the flash apps will freeze up, and then everything needs to be shut down through the task manager,
and the browser restarted.

I am going to try blocking it like you have then,
but from what I had read this morning,
you're not supposed to be able to use Youtube if it's blocked.
But obviously, you've got it going on.

I'm with you on plugin-container.exe as a nasty part of FF.

I am currently restarting FF after an extended period of use just to avoid the crash.

Please let me know what happens. It might depend on your OS. I'm on XP & still using  3.6.8 which I thought was the current version. Since installing the latest updates I've noticed that Firefox locks up more than it used to. Not sure if this is connected with the subject of this topic. :-/

I've always liked Firefox but if I have problems with it I'll just use Chrome or Opera instead.

Is it easy to zip back and install previous (trouble-free) versions of Firefox?

Every now and again I have to go into:

Firefox:
Tools > Add-ons >

Extensions.
Plug-ins.
etc...

And Remove
