Interesting that some of the comments think that losing the retailers is losing the middle man and reducing the costs. The new middle man is the shipping and delivery poeple, of whom can have ten times the quirks a retailer has.

My local "Game" Store only stocks a handful of PC games now, with very poor sales.
Their shelves are stocked full of Consoles, Console games, and Console accessories now!
Paul.

Apparently, your retailers are well over 10 years behind the times compared to ours, that, or your consumers are.
It's near impossible to find many, if any computer games in a store here, it's been 99% console gaming since at least the 1990's, (well, at least in Texas, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky where I've lived, visited, and shopped since 1991)
Once the Playstation 1 came out here, it was the beginning of the end for retail sold computer games in the US(see previous location disclaimer above).
The two local gaming stores here, Game Stop, and EB Games,
stopped selling Computer games altogether in the early 2000's, and now,
even Walmart & Best Buy have drastically cut back due to lack of sales as compared to their console cousins.
(That was the reason I was given when I had first purchased a computer and went looking for good games)
Times change, and console games, are
easier to use, cheaper to run, and more available to the average gamer than their computer based versions.
I'm a proud member of the 'console generation'.

[color=#000000]All that may be true, but I do not ascribe to the console path. I have a PS2 and played GT4 for over a year. But since I found SimV, I have only played it once or twice. I bought some PS2 WWII fighter game, but without a 40" plus screen, it was just too difficult due to the size of the foe aircraft displayed. And I find the controls more difficult than a joystick for flight. I did learn to use them quite well with GT4, as my son, Tech Support will tell you. I beat him and his buds on a regular basis. I have no plans to purchase any more games for the PS2, nor a PS3 or any other system. I also play EA Sports Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 on the pc, as well as Virtual Pool 3. And I have Myst, Riven, and Exile, which I have yet to install. I just can't pull myself away from FSX long enough.

That's thing that keeps it from being altogether cheaper.. Everyone I know with a console is using it on a large screen tv.
