XP Guardian 2010 - Unregistered Version

Hi there.

My parent's desktop has just encountered an issue and I cannot work out how to solve it. Every time a web browser is opened, be it IE or Firefox a program which calls itself "XP Guardian 2010 - Unregistered Version" stops it from opening and tries to get me to register it / buy it. We have McAfee installed on the computer so this is nothing to do with the current protection.

In addition to stopping the browser opening there is a persistent bubble keeps opening in the bottom right of the screen with messages ranging from "Security breach!" to "tracking software found" etc. This is happening pretty much every minute or more and is originating from this XP Guardian program or whatever it actually happens to be.

I cannot find it in the add/remove programs menu and my McAfee is 25% through a full system scan and has so far found no issues what-so-ever.

Anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do?

Danny

You can download Malwarebytes for free
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

and Spybot for free
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

Run Malwarebytes first and then Spybot.  After you download them make sure and update them both before you run them.

After that if you still have problems go to

these guys will be able to help you get rid of it.  It may take some time for them to respond to your post, all of them donate their time.  Make sure that you read through all the do this first stickys before you post, it will save you some time.
