Hello Chums, and Chumesses... :)...!

Something strange has recently happened to my Firefox Browser... :'(...!

At one time, I switched on my Computer, it went through the usual DOS routine, loaded up Windows XP Pro, then went straight to my Desktop Screen with all my Icons....all automatically...
...and when I requested "Shut Down" from the "Start"

Poor Paul, this is the VERY event that led me to reinstall it all this week. :(

I had become convinced I had a virus.

At first, I lost my IE, completely.

Then I switched to Firefox. It worked at first, but then it stopped remembering my passwords. Just like yours is doing now.

Finally, Firefox would no longer connect to the internet.

I gave up at this point and reinstalled, and now both IE and

Honest.... ::)...!

Paul... ;)... ;D...!

P.S. ...its still playing up!...Its almost as though the Browser only remembers my Name and Passwords for one session. Next day they are all forgotten again, and I have to type them in again every time with each Site visit!
(Its the same with Sim V even tho' I request it to "Always Remember"... :'(...)!
...strange!... :(...!

I agree it sounds like a virus or malware. I can only suggest a scan with Spybot & Malwarebytes.

Paul, have you done any Windows Updates recently? You could try this. http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-514-how-to-log-in-automatically-with-windows-xp

Please note that I'm not qualified to say whether it will work.

Done both of those Doug, (regularly) ...and a full Virus scan with AVG...

...nuffin' suspicious turns up!... ::)...!

Not sure whether the Problem can be with either Win XP Pro...of my Firefox Browser... :(...!

I cant spot anything in the various settings which would cause the problem!

I would remove and re-install my Firefox, except for the rigmarole of recovering all my "Bookmarks" again, (which is much more straightforward in Internet Explorer!).

It is annoying though!... >:(...!

Paul... ;)...!

Ah OK. Worth a try. Did you check out my above link? http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-514-how-to-log-in-automatically-with-windows-xp

If it affects login & shutdown I think the problem is more likely to be with Windows rather than individual applications like Firefox.

Hi,

I thought scanning is the best thing, you have to do first...

i dont know if you have tried this or even want to... but look at::

START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > USER ACCOUNTS > USER ACCOUNTS (again) > Change the way users log on or off > ... make sure USE THE WELCOME SCREEN has a check mark....... and that USE FAST USER SWITCHING does NOT have a check mark.

This will stop the passwords at log on if you do not have any.

as to the questions at shutdown, I am not sure what you might be seeing, so I do can not advise on that subject matter.

BTW, I am running Win XP Home which is close to what you have.   Hope this might help in some capacity.

Poor, poor Paul!  :( I have two options for you:

1. Go to your happy place.
2. Hit the computer with a hammer and say very, very bad things to it.
