So get this I was working on an awesome FS9 video for about a month, and I just got finished with it last night right? So its about 4:31 in length.... so I go to click "Publish". Oh boy heres where the problems begin.. Its to a good 25%-30% published and this is where I get a message like this "Windows could not allocate 1280x1024" and some weird number with the word "Codec" next to it.. so then I thought.. ahh maybe because some of my shots were too big interms of resolution and maybe it won't publish that, so then I thought, maybe I will update my version of WMM, so then I went to microsoft's website and downloaded windows movie maker 2.6, so then I thought this might fix the trick! So i tried to open my movie that I created which was a .MSWMM file (which is standard windows movie maker file) and that didnt work! It wouldnt open it at all, so Im furious at this point because I worked hard on this video..

What I did to test my clips.. was I just imported some of the clips I used to record, which were 1280x1024, and I tried to publish them, and it published fine with no errors at all! So now at this point, I am completely stuck!... Advice?  :-?

btw: OS Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit, and I used FRAPS (unregistered) to record.

What was the 'weird number' it gives you?

Codec means:

Compression   (Co)
Decompression   (Dec)


It is software used to make videos compressed and then you need the same software on your computer to able to uncompress it to be able to play it. If you do not have the right codec you can't uncompress the videos and therefore cannot play them. If you do not have the right codec to compress it, you cannot compress it. A popular codec (of which there are quite a few) is DivX and XviD.

Get the CCCP. No, that isn't soviet, it is the Combined Community Codec Pack available from here. Install it, reboot your computer and try again.

You could also try getting K-Lite codec pack, the DivX and Xvid codecs.


Install them, reboot, try again. Say what happens.

and for Machineman, I'm sorry I didnt know that about the .MSWMM files.. my trouble just comes changing the files from .MSWMM to an actual video file..

I am trying to publish to either a .wma or a .avi, basically any format that will allow me to post a video on Youtube or SimTV

Not sure if the .wma was a typo or not, but that's an audio format. Try .wmv, I use the same setup as you, and have no problem with this format.
I've had no luck with .avi either. :-/

Ahhh still nothing will work... here let me give you some screenshots to let you see what I am seeing...

Is this the same error, before & after the Movie Maker update you did?

And just tossing out ideas if so, have you moved any of the original source files, or folders, or perhaps altered them in some way?

I'm asking because of the statement in the error, it seems to imply a path problem of some sort. So I wouldn't think it was a conversion problem, but one of a lost source file or destination.

The pics I posted above are the ones from before when I updated WMM, the new version that I installed won't even let me open my project file, it gives me a message saying "The file was created by a version of Windows Movie Maker that is not supported".  

I am almost certain that all the path files for every clip and every file is untouched and in its place.. maybe I'll just try to re-make the video on the new version... it will be a Pain in the... but hey never hurts to try..
