Tried it already. It's alright. Nothing to ooh and aah about. I would still rather have XP but looks like I am stuck with Vista 32-bit.... :-X

I have to say that Vista over XP (for my usaged anyway). I have had Vista for over a year now and have been problem free. A couple of blue screens of death (Unlike the almost daily occurrence by XP), but no conflicts, no software installation problems (COD5 on my Vista laptop runs like a dream...........still cannot get it to work on my XP desktop >:()
I am a happy customer 8-)

It appears Windows7 is for the core, lipstick on a pig

We are being handed a rearraged Vista with the fat trimmed out of it to run better and a few new features

I am absolutely sure this is a repackging of Vista to try and dump the name VISTA due to the name ALONE making people turn away from its use

Now, not to say a leaner and perhaps 'corrected' version of Vista may not be a bad thing.. but this appears to be a DAMAGE CONTROL NAME CHANGE job and REPAIR and nothing "all new" and "all improved"

If they do manage to fix the real problems with Vista and import them to Windows7, and, keep the OS from sucking the life out of a CPU and memory system then the switch from XP would be worth it.

Only time will tell

They are keeping many features out of the beta which is a red flag for me as well...   the old Bill Gate DEMO trick

I havent tried fsx yet but fs9 plays fine and crysis, cod4 plays much much better that on vista or even xp. Plus I can leave on the visuals that I had to turn off in vista. So far so good. And that is with beta drivers and some vista 64 bit.

cool, nice to know it's running better... maybe i'll switch my vista laptop to win7

that is, if i can get my hands on it... M$ is cutting down user downloads due to the extreme demand on their severs

maybe it will be available on torrent, then we can all download happily  8-)

Ok. Silly question:

I'm testing Windows 7 on a separate hard drive with an Abit AV8 MB. Since Via doesn't have chipset drivers for this OS do I just not worry about it or will performance be affected?

Also, I assume the latest Directx version comes with the Beta?

I would just install it and then run windows update, if there is an appropriate driver for your chipset that should find it.

been running it on my old machine and it runs great.
Specs:
P4 HT 2.8ghx OC'd to 2.93
2GB DDR 400
ATI X700 Pro AGP

Runs very well. I have installed FS9, Crysis demo, Halo 2, and TrackMania Nations Forever. all run smoothly including Halo 2 on the high LOD setting.
