Question about Xbox360

has any one else had to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX ?? if so what what was your red ring of death (RROD) problem, and how much were your charged for it?

im just asking because my Xbox360 just red ringed because it 'overheated' (but im pretty sure the temp. gauge is broke) and now i have to pay $105.50 to fix it

You shouldent have to pay anything. There's a warranty on your xbox. How long have you had your XBOX? If you just got it for christmas you can take it back to your store with a receipt if not you still have a warranty with XBOX and I would call them up again and tell about your warranty.
Dont worry yet and dont pay yet either!

XBOX had listed that they extending there warranty with everyone about 1-2 years ago when this red ring became such a huge hit on so many XBOX users.
Ive got it once but it was only from a power surge at my house because my step-brother got it to at the same exact time on his XBOX. Worked great since then.

well they had said that my warranty has expired, and I've only had it for a year. I think that they should repair it for free because I've done there recommendations for over heating i.e letting it sit in a well ventilated area for 6 hours, but i let it sit for about 12 hours and it still doesn't work  :'(

I knew they had extended it for that reason. Also there was a method with towels that ive heard worked for some of my friends..

I wouldent know but that must be what people are commenting. I'd give that a try then consult microsoft and ask them about the warrantys. If you search up online ill bet you'll see that they have extended it to 3 years and this isnt farely new news either.
I just dont understand why microsoft is telling you your 1 year has ended? Maybe you dint register your xbox or something?

Those could help you, if you are not afraid to mess about with the X-box, which could be worth doing so, since they stated that you dont have any warranty anymore.

Another thing is, you may expect the hardware to last longer then the warranty period, so if a object fails just after the end of the period then you can legally expect the company to still help you out.

very true. My ipod broke a few months ago (this is apple though so you would expect them to be good about it) and i rang them up, turns out it was 9 days out of warranty, 30 seconds of the guy talking to his superiors and i got it sent away. A week later was given a new ipod free of charge. Better than the old one i had too (not because it was new).

You are lucky there TimTim, Apple is notoriously know for its equipment barely lasting its designed lifetime, so people quikly buy followups. Glad it all worked out for you!

yeah i cant risk the towel trick because the problem is that my Xbox is overheating, and i hate to fry stuff in there BUT im sending it off today

I wouldove just went out to the store and bought the $200 XBOX and placed my hard drive in that one than rather pay microsoft my $105 for someting I should get for free.

Although they do send there XBOX'S back to your house sooner but it all depends on how many they have to fix to so happy gaming when you get yours back!  :)

If you registered it on-line then all you have to do is go to Micrsoft's website and put in the appropriate info and they'll send you a box and shipping tags to send the defective box to them free of charge,they pay all costs.
You should get a new,or refurbished,box within a couple of weeks. Being it's Holiday time it might take longer.

Edit: Sorry,didn't read the post about them saying the warranty expired. I question that because I thought it was longer than 1 year warranties. My kid's box red-ringed and it was 2 years old when I did what I wrote.
I'd still give it a shot just to keep them honest.

Well i know that RROD is 3 red rings, but most people get RROD from overheating. The people that made the motherboard decided it would be a good idea to use solder that melted at a lower temp. The people who made the graphics card (ATI) made a graphics card which gets too hot. (surprise surprise). If the ventilation around the xbox isn't great enough the chips will literally fall off because the solder sucks and melts @ low temps.

contrary to popular belief xbox HAVE attempted to fix their problems on new xbox's called jasper (i think jasper) and they use 12 amps instead of 14 therefore creating less heat. There is no visual difference but if you look at the sticker on it (not sure where because i dont have one myself) then you'll know if you got a good one or a crap one.

The problem mostly isn't "falling off" but instead some things being disloged and not getting a proper connection with where they were supposed to be.
