....there you go, Chums.....

I bet you already recognise it...

....and I have recently started to suffer from it!

The dreaded (missing?) msvcr80.dll which always closes your (Mozilla Firefox) Browser and sends you back to the desktop whenever certain streaming videos appear on your Browser page...

Everybody, and his Dog, has experienced this problem, (Google it), and I'm blowed if I can find a permanent cure for it.... >:(...!

...my Payware "Registry Mechanic" never spots the problem, and cures it for me... :'(...!

Any ideas, Mates?.. ::)...?

Paul....with a dangling dll.... ;)...!

P.S. a Win XP "Search" brings up lots of msvcr80.dll's dotted around in my Registry.. :o...!

Did this start happening after you updated Firefox? From this thread in the Firefox Support forum it could be caused by something in your profile. http://support-stage.mozilla.org/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?locale=uk&comments_parentId=41480&forumId=1

Seems more than coincidence after you just fixed your bookmarks.

Nah, Doug...

I've been suffering from the dreaded msvcr80.dll for a couple of weeks now, and it only seems to affect certain streaming (Browser) Video programs... ::)...!

Its followed by the usual "Tell uncle Bill all about it" message, (which I don't)...then the browser shuts down to the Desktop...

Bleedin' annoying!... >:(...!

Win Media Player, Real Player, and Quick Time, are my default/preferred Players...

Paul.... 8-)...!

As an aside....The BBC News Streaming Video is always a total disaster....it starts buffering....then freezes!...I have to do a Ctrl+Alt+Delete to shut it down! >:(...!

..its been a bad week!... :'(...... ;D....!

...and I still haven't painted that bloody "Hollywood" sign yet!

I never liked Real Player. It installs by default with the AOL browser software but I prefer not to use it. I have the same problem with BBC videos. Not sure why or which format they use.* I can only suggest you get the latest version of the software & the corresponding Firefox plugins.

Ah well, I did my best. :'( You seem to have a lot of problems that I've never suffered from. If I haven't experienced it I can't fix it. Sorry.

*PS. The BBC streaming videos require Real Player. That might explain something.

I don't think it's that easy, John...

My Hard drive is full of msvcr80.dll Files dotted all over the place...

...after a read up on the subject, It appears that if a particular program you/I are trying you open/run is looking for the ****.dll file to get it to work, but the ****.dll file has been moved or deleted for some reason, so it comes up with the error report!

So downloading yet another msvcr80.dll file just adds to the problem, rather than curing it.... :'(...!

I think only a very clever Registry Fixer will/may cure it....(my Registry Mechanic wont)... :o...!

Funny thing is...the error only occurs with my Firefox Browser, and certain Sites....Internet Explorer is OK... :)...!

Paul...bleedin' dll's... >:(...!

.... ;D....!

Did you check if the msvcr80.dll file is in the program directory of firefox?

Should be installed anyway as part of the C/C++ runtime thingy on XP machines (but i could be wrong as my main XP machine runs Visual Studio which installs the discussed file as a main requirement)
