AVG Virus Security Software

Postby Plugpennyshadow » Sun Jun 29, 2008 8:12 pm

Does anyone on the board use the AVG security software?

My dad uses it on both his PC and laptop.  He swears by it as effective and very little intrusion into his everyday computing.

Any Pros & Cons would be welcome as to how this software will behave on a dedicated FSX gaming machine as regards not dragging performance down.

Thanks.

(BTW, I have seen ,somewhere in the boards, an anti-virus recommended by Dr. Nick.  Have'nt found the thread again...Should've wrote it down...Someone hit me with the make and model of that AV software, please.)

AVG anti virus free and pay versions are one of the best out there. I have the pay version and it does not affect my gaming at all. Effectiveness is at the top. Great virus scanner and removal. Will do whatever you ask. It is just much better than Norton. ;)

Get the free version and try it out.

Now regarding clean uninstall i do not know as I have never tried it. But i hear it is clean to get rid of.

I work in a small pc shop. every computer goes out with a copy of AVG installed. The ones that come back with viruses (costs $99 to remove :D) have removed their AVG lol.

Thanks for the snappy replies and the affirms from all.  You guys responding always seem to have the bestest advice.

Think I'll go for the entire AVG security suite.  Am currently running Microsoft LiveOne Care suite.  I had a bad virus attack a few months ago.  I know it is not LiveOne's fault or Microsoft's, but I am not pleased with the mechanics of LiveOne...can't really explain it any other way...just a general dissatisfaction.

I have seen references to a security software recommended in some of the threads associated with Nick's advice and tweaks.  Anyone know the name of this software?

Thanks
