...Is it really that hard to make it work? i heard that it's like windows, but no viros? :-/

Ive tried Ubuntu Linux which as far as I know it the most supported version out there. Here is a link:

You can run it from the CD to test it out, and it comes with an intuitive installer which will setup a partition so you can run it with windows.

Yeah but i don't have a DVD burner but the one i'm planning to get runs from it's oen folder from where i chose

Installing the OS is easy, but installing drivers or extra software requires you to become a nerd. Have to faff around in terminal knowing commands, sudo, sources.list text files, libs etc.

Need help!!!! i can't connect to the net :-/ i type in the pass and it takes awhile to say wrong password >:( then i try to open up firefox, it says it's loading but it never loads, and it's never used my HDD (WTF) that weird, it won't accept my keyboard input sometimes when i trying to go to a website to see if i had connected...i'm think 'bout un-installing it .'

Oh and if your wondering how i'm typing this... dual boot 8-)

Well i 'm un-installing it, it has came with only frustration >:( >:( it has reset my OC speed >:( it has slow down my computer, it is hogging up HDD space >:( and i'm trying to get info on the net...found it but it says get rid of the partion...but i can't find to partion >:( so i need help with getting rid of it!

And i don't want to download it again! 4 $#@!@#$ hours is long enough... and they say windows is hard  

Must have incompatible hardware, have installed Ubuntu on brothers laptop and included applications work fine, automatically detects the DHCP server (router) open up firefox and loads up default homepage.

Linux is difficult only if you need to install software or drivers, if everything works from the first boot, and it's just a net PC..

I did it successfully and now to do stuff

I run PCLinuxOS on a test rig... which unfortunately doesn't want to work for whatever reason..

I am probably going to do a clean install some time soon.

When it was working, on this computer, I enjoyed it. A bit of a pain to get used to (and running 800x600 on 1440x900 was terrible until I could look for drivers) but aside from that it works well... much better than I thought something free like it would.

If you've ever used DOS or Unix then Linux is a doddle. I've got one machine for Windows and the other for Linux at home.

ubuntu is good, but i would say keep them on seperate machines, i had ubuntu installed and dual booting with windows but as the windows MBR gets over written with GRUB loader once you uninstall linux you have t re-write the windows MBR which can cause problems.

ubuntu is great, and all driver installations are taken care of by the OS when you first boot into it.

but i would recomend having one OS to a machine.
