just installed vista today, and noticed i had high memory usage, and the numbers didnt add up in task manager, looking at my advanced display settings i noticed that windows is allocating 254mb of my system memory for video memory, i have no onboard graphics chip so this cant be done in bios (i looked) its something vista is doing.

does anyone have any ideas on how to disable vista from sharing the memory?

cheers
J

Vista eats memory for breakfast, lunch and dinner and then a midnight snack.
Ask Nick I have no idea.

thats what i thought but i looked at my advanded display properties and it said 254mb of my RAM was being used as shared memory for my video card, bringing my cards total available memory to about 750mb.

did some adding up from my task manager, and when i add the two together i get the amount of memory being used when idle. if i can disable this shared memory then my memory usage would be the same as it is in xp (well a bit more but not like it is at the moment)
