Control Left Click

Postby expat » Mon Feb 11, 2008 11:46 am

When using Control Left Click to select pictures or files either on my desktop or in a folder XP will suddenly make a copy of everything that is highlighted whilst I am in the middle of selecting. Very annoying if I have already got 50 pictures selected and then end up with 50 copies. It becomes a never ending chase. Highlight the copies to delete and no matter how careful I am when selecting, I end up with 50 copies of copies. Is this an XP problem, me or something else. It drives me mad. Anyone got any ideas........please

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Ya where? It sounds like a great tool. But it might be the settings for the mouse that is messed up.

It is an IR mouse, I thought that it was maintenance free.

What setting could that be?

That usually happens when you double click by accident on an already selected picture...My strategy was to go bunch by bunch...10-15 at a time seemed to work ;)

When you are selecting multiple files after you left click the first file you have to hold down the Ctrl key, left click the next file, release the Ctrl key and so on for all the files you want to high-lite. That's just the way it is in XP.

Selecting with Ctrl isn't the issue.  If you hold it down and only click on the files, it will select them.  The files get copied when you move the mouse while selecting one, even if the move is tiny.  The computer interprets this as dragging the files into the folder they're already in and so starts making copies.  If you're careful to keep the mouse steady on the file whilst clicking, you shouldn't have any problems with copying.
