Nick I hope you read this.  In a tread regarding XP tweaks for FSX you mentioned once a month to use Spybots and Adware.  I did a google for Spybots and there are a lot, I use to use a program called Spybot, did you mean Spybot rather than Spybots.  Would you recommend a specific program.  I use to use Norton Internet Security that included anitvirus, I stopped because it takes to many resources to run in the back round.  What is a good program to check for email viruses, adware, trojans, etc. that is not resource hungry.  I know that it will probably be multiple programs since I doubt that one can do all.  What do you think of Spyware Doctor 5.0, this seems to have a lot of what I am looking for.

Any responses from anyone will be appreciated.

Regards,

Rod

Spybot is probably the one Nick meant, it is quite useful.  For anitvirus i use AVG, its free and doesn't take up resources ;)

Spybot Search & Destroy.  There is a new version 1.5 available, but it has some bugs.  You can get the older version 1.4, which in my opinion is better.  It works in both XP and Vista.  Easy to use, and isn't resource hungry.

From what I've heard, most of the reported bugs with version 1.5 are from Vista users.  I tried version 1.5 with my system (Vista) and the program would intermitently freeze up.  My sister uses it with XP and has not had any problems.  I've never had a problem wih version 1.4 on either XP or Vista.

I dont care if you turn it off or not... your system is infested with the worse resource killer known in the business, and the background activity king. Turning it off only removes part of the problem and you can never shut it down. The only way to get rid of Norton is to uninstall it... and unfortunately even the uninstal may leave junk like LIVE UPDATE installed..

Norton never goes away without a pro cleaning the registry... or a complete Windows wipe.

NOD32 is the best professional payware. I would not boot a computer without it... and I fly with it running too... very little system footprint

Hello Nick,

I know that it must be in the help section some place, but I will be darn if I can find it, for Nod32 what is the difference between an in-dept scan, a smart scan and the scan that Nod32 performs if you do not chose a scan type?

Regards,

Rod

Hello Nick,

I know that it must be in the help section some place, but I will be darn if I can find it.  What is the difference between an in-depth scan, a smart scan (these two are under advanced) and the scan that the system performs if you do not go into advanced options?
