So weird

Today I have been trying to install FSX (I have some extra space that i recently gained) and the weirdest thing happened. When I try to run the first disk, the only thing that shows up is a read-me file. When I run it, it just pulls up the read-me file, not the set-up option. If I go to My Computer and look at it, the only thing that appears to be on the disk is the read-me file. I was wondering if I accidentally uploaded all the information that should be on Disk One onto my computer and deleted it.
If anybody knows what I'm doing wrong, or if there's a way to fix this then I'd really appreciate it.
Nick

Does the Read-Me file say anything about the problem?

Go to Tools > Folder Options. In there, under View, check the settings so that you can see every possible file on your system:
Uncheck 'Hide Protected Operating System Files'.
And set the hidden files things so that you can see all files.
If that doesn't help, then check the second DVD, if there is one. If there isn't, return the thing.

Where did you buy it? I got a fake disk once for a medal of honor game from a private seller at my school. It sucked, but I got the fake dirt cheep anyway!

Well I got if off amazon literally a year ago (possibly a year ago today). I have previously installed it and the installation went fine. The game-play was poor though so I uninstalled it. Now today just before I actually got the setup file up and running, but it didn't continue to run and just basically stopped setting up for installation. I really do not know what is happening. I know that it isn't a fake disc because its worked before.
It seems as if sometimes the files are on the disc, and other times they are not.

Try it in a different DVD drive, perhaps's friend's drive. If still no go, look at the DVD, and see if there are any scratch marks, fingerprints, etc. If there is, wash it under tap water (don't touch it, just run water over it) then clean it with a soft cloth. If there aren't any marks, wash it anyway.

Well I washed it... now I'm just waiting to see if it loads. It seems though that its more of a drive problem rather than a disc problem. I've been getting a lot of "not responding"s over the past few days

Microsoft Replaced my deffective disk 4 for FS9 for free.
Call up microsoft and explain to them your problem and they'll probably send you a new one if you didn't void the warranty on the old one. If they do send you a new one, it'll have NOT FOR RETAIL OR OEM DISTRIBUTION written allll over it.
