Every time I join a game I immediately get kicked by punkbuster - the message says "Service communication failure - punkbusterB intialization failed."  I just did a reinstall but no luck.

Try downloading from here:

http://www.punkbuster.com/index.php?page=dl-cod2.php

Should fix the problem.

You haven't used any hack/warez have you? That also causes this failure.

Tried the update program, but no luck. :-/  I have never used cheats of any kind.  Do you know if  pnkbstrB should be running as a process in the background? I checked in task mananger and pnkbstrA was listed.  I figure something must be interfering with pnkbstrB since that is what the error is about.

Hmm... try this, found it on another forum:

I sent an email to punkbuster about the comunication error and getting kicked. This is what they sent me.

Note #2: If you are being kicked for a "Communication Failure" it is likely that something on your computer is preventing the PnkBstr services from communicating with each other.

A common cause for this is a security or anti-virus program. McAfee and other popular security/firewall programs need to be told to allow the PnkBstrA and PnkBstrB services to run without restriction. Until you locate and remove the restrictions on PnkBstrA and B, you will continue to be kicked for this.

If you've never manually installed the PunkBuster services, you might want to try that as well. Download the service installer from http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe and run it. You might also want to reinstall the services using this tool.

Hope this helps ;)
