Hi. I've got two problems.

A: Why all of a sudden, has my videos video and audio gone stuttery? FS still works fine.

B: Why do I have to open ALL videos in VLC Media Player, then simultaneously play them in WMP to get correct contrast.

Also possibly of use: my cpu is almost constantly 100% occupied, even when playing low quality music (96kbps).

Thanks. This has been going on for about 6 months, just been two busy to fix!

Update: My pc can no longer log on succesfully. After logging on (enter password) it tries to srtart the boot programs, but then freezes...permanently. CPU use droops to zero, and RAM use drops to 264 mbs.

uve got roughly the same PC as me, but what's ur CPU speed?

as for the new RAM, try removing it.  if the new RAM has a different speed than the old RAM, then it shouldnt be a problem, but it might be, in a rare case.  as for the hard drive, leave that in...

btw, wat wattage is ur PSU?

Okay when your pc boots up do a ctrl+alt+delete to get the task manager up, then click on "Performance". Check out how much RAM is being used on boot, also at the bottom left it tells you how many processes there are running. As of booting on my gaming PC I have about 50 processes running, and on my laptop about 70. If you're over 60 I'd recommend clearing out your startup folder and uninstalling old files.

Coincidentally, I have sort of the same problem. It only happens with video, and it only happens after watching sustained video for ten minutes or so, full screen.

Fixed the startup problem. Turns out I got a damaged registry. I back them up every few days, so fixed that quick. I still can't play video worth a dung pile. I have only 41 startup processes. My P4 is 2.4Ghz. My PSU is 250watts, to be updated soon.

Hello Chums.... ...!

I'm using this thread to illustrate a persistent problem I have with SOME on-line streaming videos.
For example: On some news Sites I click on Live Video, and up pops either their own streaming program, or my Windows Media Player/Real Player...
...no problemo... ...!

But on some Sites, noticeably the BBC News site, when I click on "Live Video", the Player pops up with....
...connecting....(extremely slowly!)...
..buffering....(and grinds to a standstill)...

With the result that the Player, any, and all, of the Windows on the screen lock-up, and cannot be closed down.
The "Start" Menu cannot be accessed, to shut the Computer down, and any attempt to drag a window results in multiple displays of the same window scrolling across the screen, very slowly...
CTRL+ALT+DEL, shows Processor activity fixed at 100% constantly, and the only way to close the window/Video down is to press the Power-off button on the computer!.... ...!

This only happens with a few particular sites who sometimes seem to insist on using their own versions of Video player....

(My Win Media Player/Real Player is selected to play all media types).

Any ideas? This has been going on for years? now... ...!

Ok, I had this problem so I went to Ctrl + Alt + Del and then click on Processes, then click the User name button close all the processes that have the user name in then, but do not close explorer.exe, or taskmgr.exe, then you will have to go and restart your virus software, and any video card drivers, ATI CCC (Catalyst Control Center) or, Nvidia Nveiw thingy* *this is only if you have a vid card you put put in if your using the video on the motherboard you don't have to do this

Close all of the processes, then restart the PC? I already have my processes slimed to minimum numbers. Would closing the processes once fix the problems permanently?

Go Start > Run > Type "msconfig" (without speech marks) > Click the startup tab > take a screenshot of EVERYTHING in there.

Post it here and we'll have a look.

53 processes is WAY to much unless you have an anti-virus such as McAfee or Norton (On my computer McAfee has 12 separate processes  ::))

Umm Dan that doesn't seem like its really beneficial to your startup.

If you have McAfee it's better not to shut it down as most of the processes only begin at start-up/can only be restarted through services.msc.

If your computers slow on startup, its always best to just leave it. If its slow during normal use, then do something about it, but unless your running a very high end computer with no-addon programmes, your always going to have SOME lag at start up  ;)

Most of them are from IM programs that are set to come up on startup, some disc burning software that is set to come up at start-up and then all the McAfee crap , but I've been doing this for years with no problems ever from it

Sorry about the delay.

The video problem has kinda fixed itself. Video playback is decent (never very good). FS9 has suddenly gone to 30+fps in rural, 15-20 in cities with 80% traffic/ medium settings.

I have done nothing.

Anyways, I use the msconfig almost daily! I love it!
