System defaults

I have tried 100 times to set media player as the default player both by choosing a program then ticking the box to always use this one, and also within media player 11 itself. But it refuses to use it, When I click a mp3 or .wav it opens sound recorder or the what program do you want to use box opens. any ideas.

Have you tried rebooting after changing the settings? Might not help but worth a shot.
If you set it in WMP11 it should remain as your default. Although I have noticed at times even after it uses a specific program I tell it to, it will revert back and ask me which program to use, this usually happens after I go through a good cleaning of the computer.
