MP4 converter 1.0 problems

i am having problems with my MPEG4 converter. it is MP4 Converter 1.0 and the problem i am having is that after i convert say...an avi file into mp4, the sound does not keep up with the movie, and it gets worse as the clip goes on. i converted an episode of lost and at the end of the episode the sound was some 4(ish) minutes behind. any ideas why this is. cheers.
