I do this so infrequently that I forget where to find it. Please, somebody point me in the right direction. A million fragmented thanks...

You can find it by right clicking on your Hard drive, click properties, and the tool tab.

or start/control panel/performance and maintenance/re-arrange items on your hard disk to make programs run faster. ;D
One thing you got to like about Windows is the fact there are countless ways to perform a task

Before a defrag I always delete:
Cookies
Temp internet files
Temp folder.
I also turn off the screensaver. I'm not sure if this helps but my defrag took 1 hour Wednesday night, on a 250Gb HD.

Also helps to turn of anti virus software, no need for that to be scanning your defrag.

I don't have any virus protections, P.I. I let Norton expire back at the end of May and I've been nekkid ever since. My computer guru where I live says I've got to be so infected by now with every bad thing imaginable that a total wipe-out of the drive and an install of Windows XP Professional is my only route to salvation. I will do it eventually, when it gets so bad that I can't do much of anything anymore. But for now, I just delete the near-100 pron spams I get everyday and go on with it...

Typically you don't need an anti virus program. Norton is a load of bull, Mcaffe I guess is worthless, I run AVG but not all the time. Reason? Too many resources and processes running when I have a virus program loaded. I scan ocassionally I've had no viruses or trojans in the last year and a half I haven't run a virus program. And your tech guru? I don't think he knows what he's talking about. Unless you run P2P and go looking for the worst porn sites known to the world, you'll be fine. Spyware is a totally different story though, I get those all the time, but adaware deals with it.
I might be out of line, but this is all my personal Expierence (I can't spell) I've dealt with computers that used P2Ps before, a MESS!
Cheers, Gunny

...same as above....

...!
Peer-to-Peer music downloading was the most dangerous way to get a dose of the "nasties"....

...!
Nothing seems to stop the harmless "Spam" from invading my E-Mail Inbox, and Adaware and Spybot takes care of the annoying Spyware...

...!
So, no major problems, really....

...!
...and it still takes three weeks to de-frag my 80 Gb Hard Drive....

...!
LOL...

...!
Paul...life is much too short for excessive de-fraggin'...

...!
LOL...!

I just got up. I let it run the defrag all night. It really tightened up-- lots of blue, now. Thanks to all who contributed.
