IE HELP!

Postby Gunny04 » Sat Oct 21, 2006 2:15 am

Ok ok ok I am mad, I went to install the official release of IE7 and my entire IE failed to work, I restored the system to a past date and have it half way working, but I cant download anything, no bookmarks, nothing.... and I cant go back to IE6 because well.... I cant download anything. The only choice I have is format because nobody will send me the bloody IE6 file or the IE7 file to try this over, I tried reinstalling using windows XP add/remove.... doesnt work. Bah... Can somebody give me an idea?

Cheers, Gunny

Its done I have officially reformatted this computer for the first time, even though FSX was on another drive I have to reinstall it, then I have to reupdate my CFG.... ugh! I sometimes hate Microsoft...

99 times out of a 100 it is not Microsoft but a hardware failure durning the update OR your original install of Windows had issues to begin with,,,... or antivirus was running and borked the install of critical system files.

Blaming MS is the easy way out everyone takes

and as for Firefox

bull

your better off leaving your browser alone

Well, I had no changes in hardware, I never run Virus programs (They kill my computer, and are expensive, though I do run one from time to time, like AVG) I had all my spyware stuff shut off, MS even had a troubleshooting thing telling you this might happen, after the fact you tried installing it.... lol I dunno if its microsoft or something wrong with my computer, but my guess is a lot of people are going to run into this problem, Microsoft obviously knew about it upon release. Oh well, I will use IE6 because I can't find the beta, and I dont think I want to format all over again!

Well with reformatting I thought I'd try it again, and on a clean install of XP, it actually works.... I am stumped, virus maybe? I may get AVG and run that from time to time to prevent junk like this happening again!

nope. more than likely something on your original windows install was borked... could have happend at anytime.

MS always puts out warnings to cover thier arse from all the possible problems that could go wrong with a major update that are NOT MS's fault...  and I can assure you MS does not release updates knowing that a problem most likely will occur.
