Hey guys,
right I started up the computer this morning and in the task bar a balloon keeps popping up telling me that
"Windows - Corrupt File
The file or directory C:\$Secure is corrupt and unreadable.
Please run Chkdsk utility"
So I have, several times, but it still wont repair...
...anyone got any ideas how to fix this?
I have windows xp home sp2, and have completed an indepth virus scan with NOD32.
Kind Regards
Benji

$Secure is a metadata file kept by the NTFS filesystem and containing a database of the drives security settings: http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/ntfs/ ... ecure.html

Unfortunately, you have two choices. If you made the emergency disk in Disk Management, that will fix it; otherwise, you will need to format the drive and start over.

Pop in the disk. Make like you want to reformat and install windows again, point it to your C drive. Windows will say "oh theres an installation already here, want to fix it" tell it yes, and continue to do so. Basically what this does is remove and rewrite your WINDOWS folder. So all your programs and files will still be there, but your going to have to reinstall all your drivers.
