compressing

can anyone tell me how to compress a picture, i know how to resize it but when i do, it just makes the file bigger
???

please excuse Flyboy 28,

What you need is Irfanview.

Put the photo in Irfaview and resize to 800X600 first.

Then "save as" a .jpg and slide the slider all the way to 100, see how high that is over 100 by saving then viewing the file. If it is too high move the slider down one and repeat untill the file is 100 -

i already have irfan view, and is the size of the file the disk space or the mem.?

When you click "save as" make certain your about to save as a jpeg, you should then see a dialog box on the right, towards the top will be a "quaility" slider.
Here you can adjust the quaility from 0-100, the higher the quaility the bigger the file size. A setting of about 80 seems to be good without no real loss of quality.

The file size will be the size on the disc.
