i dont know about you but there seems to be a serious lack of good modern combat flight simulators. There is locked on witch is ok but limited and jet fighter (if your really desprite) but there is yet to be a good one with a variety of aircraft and weapons somthing like a ace combat  for the pc but less mission based and more sim like. but keep the close combat.

Falcon 4.0 + AF is really great! It won't give you the aircraft variety you want, though.

They're out there, you just have to know where to look.

Check out the first one there, or click on my sig, and I think you'll find something somewhat close to what you have been looking for, but it will be a little while before it's released.

No, it will be released in modules, and the training module with Laughlin, TX and the T-6 Texan II, T-37 Tweet, and the T-38 Talon will be released towards the end of the year.

Hardly a "Sim" I grant you, but for Modern combat, Battlefield 2 takes some beating imo.

I was wanting to check this out but site isn't dial up friendly.
